| The History of Allendale Farm Allendale Farm started out in the 1770's as a frontier tobacco plantation. Tobacco was farmed with mules, horses and intensive hand labor then taken to market by bateau and canal boats. Over two hundred years later, the farm's primary product is fine quality horse hay. |
| Allendale Farm Today Our success in our continued quality is our ability to get the hay up quickly from field to barn for proper curing. On average we grow and harvest 600+ tons of hay, using modern tractors, mowers and balers with a minimum amount of labor, generally two men. We store the hay as 1500 pound bales, but to meet the demand of square bales, we use a unique device invented by a Georgia hay farmer that repackages our hay into convenient 40 pound square bales. |
